How to find senior benefit programs

You may be surprised to learn that there are thousands of programs that can help seniors in need. But how can you find them? And how can you see if you qualify for assistance? One way is using Benefits Check Up, a service of the National Council on Aging, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C.BenefitsCheckUp.org will search through 1,500 government and private benefit programs. There are programs offering help meeting the costs of prescription drugs and health care. Others provide assistance paying utility, rent and mortgage bills. For many of the programs, there are income limits.On the Web site, you will first be given a questionnaire. The survey is comprehensive and may take about 30 minutes to complete, but once you finish it, the search engine will locate programs for which you qualify.
